Experimental Car Association ECA

Author: Lance Winslow

Have you ever heard about the Experimental Car Association? No, probably you have not because it does not exist yet however it could and it could very much help America breaker addiction to foreign Middle Eastern oil. This also means it would help a lower the three dollar per gallon gasoline costs and help America grow her own fuel.

You see, as US Automakers produce E85 Ethanol enabled vehicles, which both Ford and GM are doing right now we will be on our way to solving our addiction to Middle Eastern foreign oil. However, most of the cars on the road will not be able to run on E85 Ethanol. This means someone will have to go and convert all the existing cars so they too can run on E85 Ethanol.

Now most people will probably opt to buy a new car as the average American buys a new car every three to five years anyway. But we also need a way to convert some of the existing vehicles on the road as we have been producing them at a rate of 17 million per year for the last five years and only a tiny fraction of these vehicles can run on E85 Ethanol. I propose allowing people to buy an aftermarket auto accessory conversion kit.

In doing so they could join the ECA or Experimental Car Association very similar to the Experimental Aircraft Association or EAA. This would allow the reducing the legal liability from lawsuits for car owners and entrepreneurs and allow them Experimental Car status, we can buy kits, which will take existing cars and convert them to run on Ethanol from corn, soybean or grass, Bio Diesel and/or flex fuels.

Folks would also have the option to buy kit cars or components from the huge array of SEMA member automotive after market entrepreneurial companies. Large Automakers will have to innovate, compete and/or buy up these new innovative technologies or lose out. We will experience new markets open up in a race for better battery technologies, more efficient aerodynamic designs, lighter and stronger materials and hybrids.

We can use the free market system and the entrepreneurial capacity of this great nation to solve the problem of converting existing cars so they too can run on homegrown fuels. This is yet another way we can break our addiction to foreign Middle Eastern Oil. Please consider this in 2006..
